Bengaluru. To avoid bogus and proxy voting, the Election Commission on Saturday said that it would soon resume linking of voter ID cards with biometic Aadhaar cards after obtaining permission from the Supreme Court. Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat, clarified that that ECI has already linked 32 crore voters’ ID card with Aadhaar numbers and the rest will be linked soon.
Interacting with the media on the sidelines of a national seminar organised by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Karnataka Election Watch at Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru (IIM-B) Rawat said, As soon as we get a clearance from the SC, all the 87.50 crore voters ID will be linked with Aadhaar numbers. When questioned how long would it take to complete the process, Rawat replied, The matter is pending before the Supreme Court and the moment SC gives its nod we will resume.
